Who runs Freeface

Freeface is made by Lakner, based in Berlin, Germany. Lakner is responsible for this website under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can reach us through laknerdesign.com.

The short version

Freeface has no accounts, no forms, no cookies, no analytics and no ads. We do not collect or store any personal data ourselves. A few outside services see basic technical data when your browser loads the site and its fonts, as described below.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technical data that every web request carries, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. This is needed to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). See the Cloudflare privacy policy.

Fonts and previews

To show the interface and the type previews, your browser loads font files directly from the services that host them:

  • Google Fonts, run by Google, for the interface font and Google Fonts previews. See the Google privacy policy.
  • Fontshare, run by the Indian Type Foundry, for Fontshare previews. See fontshare.com.
  • jsDelivr, a public file delivery network, for Fontsource previews. See jsdelivr.com.

Like any web request, these send your IP address and browser details to the service. Fonts load only as you scroll to them or open them. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in showing accurate previews (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Stored in your browser

We remember your choices in your browser's local storage: grid or list, how many cards per row, your theme and the fonts you save. This stays on your device, is never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings. If you copy a link to your saved fonts, that link contains only the names of those fonts.

Links to other sites

Buttons like "Get it on Google Fonts" take you to other websites. Their own privacy policies apply there.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing and to data portability. Because we do not store personal data ourselves, most requests will concern the services listed above. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, for example the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

Changes

We update this page when the site changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
